1. Used as a solvent for aromatic hydrocarbon extraction, reaction medium for resins and dyes, and solvent for acrylic fiber polymerization and spinning.
2. Can be used as an organic solvent, reaction medium and intermediate for organic synthesis.
3. In medicine, dimethyl sulfoxide has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects and strong skin permeability. It can dissolve certain drugs and allow them to penetrate into the human body for therapeutic purposes.
4. Using this carrier property, dimethyl sulfoxide can also be used as an additive in pesticides. Adding a small amount to certain pesticides helps them penetrate into plants and improve efficacy.
5. Dimethyl sulfoxide can also serve as a dyeing solvent, decolorizing agent and dyeing carrier for synthetic fibers; an absorbent for acetylene and sulfur dioxide recovery; a synthetic fiber modifier; antifreeze; capacitor medium; brake fluid; rare metal extractant, etc.
6. Used as an analytical reagent, stationary phase for gas chromatography, and solvent for ultraviolet spectrum analysis.
7. Antifreeze. Used in automobile antifreeze, brake fluids and hydraulic fluids. It is also used in deicing agents, coatings, latex antifreezes, gasoline and aviation fuel antifreezes, and as a cryoprotectant for the low-temperature preservation of bone marrow, blood and organs.
